Charitable

So today's topic is a charity. ::record scratch:: Yeah, I know, this blog is kind of like a giant party for consumerism and pop culture, but the realm of what is awesome in my mind is very diverse and multi-faced, OK? However, as the purpose of this blog is generally frivolous in nature, posts in subsequent weeks will most likely be dedicated to things that are, well... pretty and yummy.

There are obviously a lot of great charities out there, all for different causes, but essentially used to decrease world suck. But I think Kiva is a particularly awesome one. My brother and I recently gave a gift certificate for Kiva to my Dad for his birthday.


Here's Kiva in a nutshell:

"Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. By choosing a loan on Kiva, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the entrepreneur you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back or can re-loan the money to a different entrepreneaur."

I think the best part about it is that since you get to pick an entrepreneur to help support, you don't feel like you're just giving money to this elusive, nameless institution.
