Greenery and Dinosaurs

I recently went to the Lincoln Park Conservatory with a couple friends. Despite being in a location that I pass daily on my walk (Ok, fast-walk/jog. I’m probably late. Whatever.) to the bus stop, I have never been inside.

I am a big fan of arboretums and conservatories. The Lincoln Park Conservatory is no exception. It is one of my new favorite places in Chicago. It is humid and warm and green. It smells lovely and is full of good times. Banana trees, palm trees, orchids, little streams and ponds, fishies, venus fly traps…it’s got it all.

It is also a very nice place to visit during the icy cold wind of suck that is Chicago winters. Really relaxing and clears out the ol’ sinuses. And it’s free!

There is one room of the conservatory called the Fern Room that is kind of hilarious. When you walk in you are met with manufactured screechy bird noises and general jungle rustlings. A sign posted in the Fern Room tells you that dinosaurs would not feel out of place here because they would be familiar with all the vines and plants.

This is all well and good, but I feel the fine people at the conservatory have missed an extraordinary opportunity. Two words: dinosaur noises. Think about it! What better way to illustrate the natural habitat of dinosaurs than to have dinos roaring in the background and big dino foot stomping sounds? Thus, I would like to hereby extend a formal offer to the conservatory to record dinosaur noises for the Fern Room. Much like Mufasa or that terrifying velocirapter from Jurassic Park, I have an excellent roar. Call me.

So anyway, the conservatory was fun. You should visit when you’re in Chicago and yay for plants and flowers and koi fish and happiness.
